Data and creative: How they influence each other



The MSN homepage takeover format proved a massive success for Nissan, with over 10 million plays of its interactive game in just a few days after the campaign went live.

The Takeover format comprises a 300x250 mpu (which can be expandable), a 300x165 'spotlight' banner and a smaller floating component which ties both banners together. This combination allows advertisers not only to display more content but to deliver a much more sophisticated brand experience by using the MSN homepage creatively.

Working on behalf of MGOMD, Duke recognised the power of games to generate interactivity. The ad invited the users to take part in an urban adventure. The player chose a weapon with the aim to destroy the new QASHQAI, which sped from one banner to the other in perfect synchronisation. The choice of three weapons encouraged users to interact more and replay the game.

High scores achieved
  • Almost 3 million people played on average over three times each.
  • The interaction rate was 56.31%, double than the industry average 28%.
  • Games lasted an average 90 seconds.
  • Almost 60,000 people clicked through the ad.
  • 0.9% of the gamers clicked the replay button and played again.
